June 17, 2022: Expeditions to high-altitudes of the Tropical Andes of Peru have allowed us to discover a new species to Science, Diachea mitchellii. It has been found in relict forests that develop at almost 4000 m, in the Andean mountain range.
The new species have a spectacular iridescent peridium and a calcareous columella. This morphological and molecular study has been led by Dr. Lado, who has dedicated the new species to a dear friend and renowned myxomycetologist, David W. Mitchell, recently deceased. You can read the article just published online in Mycologia in this link.
